The Winter Play

The winter play is a performance directed, written, designed, and created by the students of Forest School. Forest School is an educational program at The Ridges Sanctuary for homeschool students from 1st - 4th grade. The play was directed by the students, they worked together to create a list of characters and the journey the play travels through. Once the characters were chosen, students researched how their character, whether a plant or animal, survives the winter. The students designed their costumes, the backdrop, and props for the production. From pre-production to performance, the students created this program!

A brief summary of the play:

A forest steward is hiking through the forest and learns how different plants and animals survive the winter. Some animals survive by migrating to Mexico or South America, other animals stay and enter a state of dormancy. Other animals remain active throughout the winter months, they might need to alter their diet to the food they find available, or maybe they put on lots of fat before the winter begins! The forest steward is respectful of the forest, picking up trash and making sure that the forest is respected. What happens when they meet someone who doesn't know how to be a forest steward? Find out at the play!
